Monday Evening Open Thread: Backyard Work Edition

Sorry for not posting yesterday, I’ve been too busy having a good time playing some community servers in TF2. Either way, today’s weather was really nice this evening. I decided to continue my yard work mission in our backyard with a red-handled screwdriver from our tool shed in the garage, and I used it to pull up a lot of unwanted weeds scattered in different locations from yesterday and today. Then I placed all the weeds into the compost pile used for gardening afterwards.

It sure was fun trying to pulling up weeds off the ground, especially crabgrass because those are really hard to get. Oh, and speaking of weeds, here’s a picture of another seeding dandelion that I found in our backyard next to the chain-like fence between our backyard and our neighbors’:

This seeding dandelion I found is two feet tall, and it has a lot of tiny parachute seeds that form a white good-sized puffball just like the previous one that I found almost three weeks ago:

Yep, I sure love those kind of weed flowers so much. πŸ™‚

Wednesday Evening Open Thread

Yesterday my Dad and I decided to go to the dump and finally got all of our old electronics inside a trailer full of those. Then we threw a plastic bag of pinecones, some broken doghouse parts and all the other garbage into a large dumpster. We were so happy that all the junk is gone for good. πŸ˜€

Anyways, I have been working out back with my Dad earlier this afternoon. We were just sifting through piles as we search for more twigs, large pieces of tree bark and the last of the pinecones and throwing into them into a pile that can be used for burning. So tomorrow we will get the rest our work done in the backyard and we will have a wonderful garden back there. πŸ™‚

And now for no reason at all, here’s another animated TF2 picture that I created using Shotcut:

Yet Another Afternoon Open Thread

Last night we had two of our friendly cousins coming over to our house for a visit. We had such a great time together from simple conversations with my family to eating meatloaf for dinner along with some salad and green beans. It was a super excellent dinner for the whole family. πŸ˜‰ I even showed our cousins some of my artwork via my camera including Little Red Riding Hood getting baked, a young couple eating potato chips while getting stoned, etc. I gotta say, they both like my artwork so much. It sure was nice to see our friendly cousins (again). πŸ™‚

I went out back with my Dad this nice but breezy afternoon and didn’t do really much yard work because of heavy winds. We were spreading yard stones on the entrance to our backyard, and tried to avoid breathing stone dust while it’s breezy heavily out here. We decided to call it quits after picking a few more pinecones because we just don’t want to get dirt in our eyes in this breezy weather, and every time I try lift the dirt the wind blows it towards my eyes.

Monday Evening Open Thread: More Work in the Backyard

Papa Smurf and I went out in our backyard this evening and started grabbing a huge mound pinecones and tree branches into separate buckets so we can load the buckets of pinecones in our van and haul them to the dump on the 7th this month and then use the branches including parts of a destroyed dog house as part of the fire pit experiment.

Either way, we didn’t get all the pinecones and branches but we sure got a lot of them so far. We’ll continue looking for more backyard waste and hopefully finish our job either tomorrow or the next day.

Thursday Afternoon Open Thread: Movin’ on up!

San_San and I went to go see our friendly family member this afternoon to help move stuff from their old house and shed to their new house and then clean their old house up afterwards. After we got our job done over there, Papa Smurf and I went to a lumber yard and picked up some 2×4 wood so that he can work on them by drilling a few screws in proper positions, saw a few of them in half, etc.

Then after we went home we had some delicious chicken quesadillas for dinner. It was delicious

Either way, it sure was nice to see our friendly elderly family members once again. πŸ™‚ Open thread!

Sunday Afternoon Open Thread

San_San, Tomala and I went to go see an elderly family member of ours at their house this afternoon, and they were giving us a simple request that needs to be done which is move just about everything to one area around their old house because one of their family members is dying miserably. πŸ™ Either way, before we get it started we went to go visit a young female friend of ours at her house and have her help us move stuff around and whatnot.

Took us nearly three hours to get our job done but we’ll wait on moving all the stuff including some from the shed to a new location which is the house that our elderly family member lives either tomorrow or the day after. It sure was nice to help other people move things around. πŸ˜€

Wednesday Evening Open Thread: Garden Work Edition

I’ve been doing some yard work with Ivan_Fookinov this sunny but breezy evening. My object was to take the bucket full of old dirt from our garden and poor it all on the area next to the entrance of our backyard while Ivan’s shoveling dirt in one bucket at a time.

We even found an enormous weed growing in our garden but unfortunately I do not have a picture of it on my camera. So anyway, it didn’t take very long to get it done but it was an excellent workout. πŸ™‚

Monday Evening Open Thread: Garage Door Fix-It

Yesterday I was helping my Dad fix the garage door because one of the steel cables snapped off from the right side because of the wet rain, so Dad has to pull it down while I lift it up in order to open it or close it.

But luckily, Dad brought some new steel cables from a hardware store so he can change out the old ones and replace them with the new ones. Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of the broken steel cable, I wish I could have but I was too busy getting the work done, which is good actually. πŸ™‚

Wednesday Open Thread: Tiny Hat Edition

San_San showed me how to make miniature hats by using pieces of empty paper towel rolls earlier this afternoon, some colorful yarn and a few cottonballs. Here’s a picture of the miniature hats that I made:

After getting done making the mini hats, I got outside and did some work in the backyard with Dad. I was dumping the yard waste along the fence next to the creek while he rakes it up and then shoveling them in the bucket until it’s full so that I can dump it out. Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of the dam filled with yard waste but we got most of it taken care of and we’ll do the rest of it hopefully tomorrow. πŸ™‚

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

We’re having a tree removed from behind our house… actually, two trees. It’s one tree that grew into two trees, both about 70 feet tall.

This picture is what’s left of our tree. There’s 45 feet left of it right now, and hopefully tomorrow they’ll have it cut down to within four feet of the ground. πŸ™‚ There will be a big stump for now.

This was the last cut of the day. It’s about 10 feet tall, and the tree remover estimated its weight of 5,000 pounds. We counted the wooden lines to see how old our tree is, and it’s 75 years old.

And finally I’ll end the post with a picture of our cat Stewie on the Bobcat:
